This site provides information you need about United States Government's annual "Diversity Visa Lottery Program". Under this program, up to 50,000 (fifty five thousand) US permanent residency visas will be granted to lucky winners from eligible countries around the world. Adult citizens of most countries in the world qualify to apply for the Diversity Visa Lottery. If one person in a family wins the Green Card Lottery then all eligible members of that person's family get the Green Card also.
The application process is simple, but very strict. Deadlines are strictly followed. Apply as soon as possible to ensure that your petition is included in the lottery. Don't wait till the last minute, the State Department's server traffic is very heavy during last few days. even with a fast connection you might not get through.

TWO MAJOR CHANGES THIS YEAR
(1) Photo resolutions: Only digital photos with 600x600 pixel resolution will be accepted for entry into the DV-2010 program
(2) Even those who are not selected in the lottery will be able to check their winning status after July 1, 2009 as long as the applicant has the confirmation number that is displayed on the confirmation page up on successful acceptance of an entry by the State Department's official website for DV-Lottery. Unsuccessful applicants received no notification from State Department in previous years.
